FAQ’s

  • Balanced dog training is a method of dog training that includes teaching the dog both “yes” and “no”. Many people believe their dog understands the word “no” but unless it was given meaning, your dog may not understand the word as well as you think they do.

The majority of owners do a great job instilling the meaning in the word “good” (yes) with their dog. The word “good” is generally an easy one that people naturally pair with food anaffection. In order to give the word “no” meaning, we must pair it with a meaningful correction.

This is where we eventually introduce the electronic collar (e-collar) to help in our communication of the word “no”. Once the dog understands the desired behavior for a command, and taught the language of the e-collar, they are introduced to corrections for non-compliance. This teaches the dog which behaviors we like and which behaviors/choices will not be excused. Essentially, the e-collar provides accountability at a distance.

  • Any dog (and their owner) can benefit from training!

Working with a professional trainer sets both you and your dog up for success by providing a framework of clear expectations, better communication, and the tools you both need for a happy, safe, enjoyable life together.

  • We work with a wide range of behavioral cases, including human and dog aggression, bite histories, severe resource guarding, reactivity, and complex special needs dogs.

We have experience working with complex behavioral and special need cases and dogs who require a more customized, thoughtful approach. Every dog is evaluated individually, and no behavioral history automatically disqualifies your dog from training.

Dogs with more complex behavioral issues typically need a minimum of 4-5 weeks of Board & Train, and progress often depends on the owner’s willingness to implement structure and lifestyle adjustments at home. In some cases, muzzle conditioning may be required prior to or during training for safety.

  • Not all boarding environments are created equal. Many facilities rely on large group free-roaming with little structure and no professional trainer overseeing behavior. For many dogs, that level of chaos can create stress, reinforce bad habits, or even contribute to reactivity.

At On The Mark, boarding is structured. Dogs stay in a calm, secure environment in a quiet area with open outdoor space. Socialization is thoughtful and based on each individual dog’s temperament and comfort level.

We incorporate pack walks, structured outdoor time, and calm place time to fulfill the needs of each dog. Every dog is exercised, socialized, and cared for in a way that works specifically for them.

Boarding here supports your training. It doesn’t undo it.
